The QL operating systems have several different ways of handling both program and system configuration. These include:
Different programs are also available to help the user set things up properly, from simple editing of config files to the more advanced MenuConfig program for config blocks. QDT updates this concept with a type of universal and modern tabbed configuration notebook. The notebook contains separate tabbed pages, each with a different 'subject matter'. The pages available are:
QDT in general and each object type have predefined object property pages. The configuration notebook will also automatically detect config block properties where appropriate and global environmental variables, displaying pages to manage them when found. For other property setups, custom notebook databases can be used to setup pages as needed. The intent is to include a group of these for more common programs. The structure will be supplied upon request so that other program authors can support the use of the notebook. In addition to tabbed pages, the configuration notebook offers several new data entry and display methods previously not standardized on the QL. These include such things as scrollable or drop down menu lists and exclusive choice button groups. Additional line graphics and titling capabilities have also been added to help group and display information on the pages. Notebooks take advantage of the QMenu capabilities to generate File and Directory menus to select files and directories, along with List menus to allow selection of specific items. The following images show the use of the File menu to select a Program to Run with a file [Associations page] and then a List Menu to select from the available icons.
